Tinder Revises Its Ways Of Reporting Serious Harassment And Abuse

Tinder has announced that a couple of improvements have been designed to give better support to the survivors of abuse and harassment. This occurred due to the result of the ongoing partnership with Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network (RAINN). Tinder also said that quite soon, the users will have better access to do background checks for the matches they get through Garbo, the non-profit company where Tinder had invested in last year.

A major aspect of this partnership involved training the customer care team of Tinder. Now, the team has learned how the afflicted can report harassment and abuse, and how to detect accounts of severe abuse, even when there is vague language expressed in the report to describe the event. This training is now mandatory during Tinder’s training curriculum and onboarding.

The survivors will have access to an increased direct method of reporting someone they have unmatched with, even if some time has elapsed after unmatching the match. An option will also be available for the survivors of whether they want to get the follow-up information on the actions taken or not.

Tracey Breeden, Tinder and Match Groups VP of Safety and Social Advocacy, said that the members trust Tinder’s teams with the incredibly vulnerable and sensitive part of their lives. Therefore, it becomes the teams’ responsibility to support the members throughout their journey, even when the members experience something bad from the app. She further added that RAINN has allowed Tinder to take a trauma-conversant approach to support the members impacted by assault and harassment.

Clara Kim, RAINN’s VP of Consulting Services, noted that by implementing more trauma-conversant support practices, Tinder will be able to support better the members who may have gone through harm and take swifter and more transparent action against the bad actors.
