Tencent Launches Services For Japanese Startups Entering The Metaverse

The internet conglomerate giant from China, Tencent Holdings, has been eyeing the Metaverse space for potential service offerings; and now they have launched a range of solutions for businesses that would like to operate in the virtual world. These solutions include the likes of avatars with Japanese vocabulary, virtual shop staff, weather reporters, and much more.

While these services were available within China, they are being offered to external companies for the first time. Other services being offered by Tencent include 3D rendering solutions for the creation of virtual models of shops and tourism sites, and also AR-based solutions. The commercial vice-president of Tencent stated that the Metaverse opens up endless opportunities for businesses, and their goal is to use their years of expertise to help people migrate to the virtual reality world quickly.

The Metaverse, although not yet globally launched, is indeed growing rapidly. The VR-based social media is unlike anything witnessed before, and tech giants such as Facebook (now renamed Meta) and Microsoft will be some of the biggest investors in this virtual world. Japanese start-ups have also been preparing for the Metaverse. Hikky, a start-up that organises VR-based concerts and conventions, and Aww, another start-up that provides virtual models are at the forefront of the movement.

Tencent recently established data centres in Japan and plans to grow even more in the future. Last year they rolled out its Metaverse services in China, and now will be helping Japanese startups with the same. The primary industries they are targeting are gaming and eCommerce, as these are some of the most VR-friendly offerings. The brand believes that its expertise in the cloud services segment will help them provide personalised solutions to start-ups across Japan.
