Snapchat Drone Camera Pixy Follows Your Picture And Video Commands

Snapchat has a new goodie on the shelves for its users. It is a drone called Pixy that operates a flying camera, letting you take pictures and videos in an all-new mode. The drone is small and it will fit the palm of your hand while costing a modest $230.

Pixy started selling last Thursday in France and the U.S. Snap revealed that pre-ordered drones will begin to arrive by May end. When you capture videos and photos on Pixy, they will be downloaded into Snapchat Memories which is a place where users can store content for later use.

Pixy is another prime example of social media companies dabbling with products in the consumer hardware range. Snap is the parent company of Snapchat but positions itself as a camera company. Since last year’s launch of “Spectacles”, there have been rumors that Snap would be releasing a “Selfie Drone” next.

Pixy was unveiled at Snap’s 4th Annual Partner Summit. The occasion was streamed on various channels on Thursday. To use Pixy in all its glory, you need to press a button on it and select one of many flight paths like orbit, hover, reveal, follow, or favorite. For example, if you choose the “follow” option, your Pixy will follow you as you walk around your block, taking pictures or shooting a video as per your wishes.

Pixy is designed to take off and land on the palm of your hand. It does not have controllers and can fly on the fly. All that the user has to do is choose the flight path. Pixy does the rest.
