Pinterest launched a new tool enabling creators to live stream on the network. The Pinterest TV Studio app for iOS and Android will allow select producers to go live on Pinterest and use numerous devices for diverse camera viewpoints. The company did not announce the application’s introduction, maybe because not all developers have access to it. Instead, producers must enter a code or scan a Pinterest barcode to access the app’s live streaming tools.
On the contrary, developing a specialised live streaming app illustrates Pinterest rethinking its position in a social media market dominated by video-first sites like TikTok. Instagram, Facebook, Snapchat, and YouTube currently include TikTok-style short video features, and most allow users to produce live video content.
Pinterest, meantime, has embraced video with Idea Pins, a video-first mix of TikTok-style short-form video content and tappable Stories. A recent earnings call indicated that Idea Pin saving rates have climbed by over 25% quarter over quarter. According to the company, Pinterest users who follow a lot of video artists are more inclined to visit the site.
Pinterest TV, a series of live, shoppable films from producers in the culinary, home, fashion, beauty, DIY, and other categories, launched in November. The shows are live and then available on demand. Christian Siriano, Monica Suriyage, Tom Daley, Manny MUA, Robyn Schall, and others were the first to use the site. Earlier this year, it explored live streaming events with notable creators on Pinterest.
Sensor Tower says the new Pinterest TV Studio app has been accessible on the App Store and Google Play from May 2, 2022. Not enough downloads to make any app store charts, and the company can’t predict total downloads at this time. There is a possibility of a global expansion of Pinterest TV activities as the app is available in Canada, Australia, the UK, and Germany.
Pinterest confirmed the app’s launch but said it had no further details. A spokeswoman added that the company is always testing innovative ways to help Creators realise their ideas. With more Creators creating original content for Pinterest TV, the firm is always trying new ways to help Creators bring their ideas to life.
