After Jack Dorsey’s resignation on Monday from the post of CEO at Twitter, Parag Agrawal has been chosen as the new CEO. This move was in progress for the past couple of months. The company’s board was searching for a candidate, and they found their CTO suitable for the chair.
In the press note, Twitter gave details of Agrawal and his career with the firm. The Twitter notes mentioned his role at Twitter before becoming the CEO and his responsibility towards the company’s technical strategy.
Agrawal had studied at IIT Mumbai and completed his doctorate degree from Stanford. In 2011, he joined Twitter and became the CTO in 2017. It also said that before becoming the CTO, Agrawal had ascended to be the first Distinguished Engineer at Twitter. He held a Ph.D. in Computer Science and a Bachelor’s Degree from IIT Mumbai.
Before joining Twitter, Agrawal had worked with Microsoft, AT&T along Yahoo. His work was mostly research-based in all these organisations. Firstly, he used to work on ad-related jobs along with artificial intelligence at Twitter.
Another appealing fact is that he is quite appreciated by former CEO Jack Dorsey. In his mail for the staff, Dorsey wrote that the board had undergone a rigorous process for the selection and had unanimously voted for Agrawal. Dorsey further wrote that Agrawal had also been his choice, as he understood deeply the needs of the company.
New York Times reported that similar to Dorsey, Agrawal too is deeply technical, polite, quiet, and motivated about an internet wherein control and power are in the users’ hands. A Twitter employee in the report stated that Agrawal is a “pragmatic” leader and engineer.
Twitter has divulged that the annual compensation for Agrawal as the CEO will be $1M, and the stock compensation will be $12.5M.
