Amazon Employees Plan Global Strike On Black Friday To Make Amzon Pay

This year, business on Black Friday could be more difficult as Amazon Employees plan to protest against the tech giant’. They plan to sit at all workplaces, which includes corporate offices, data centers, and warehouses. Make Amazon Pay- an activist group is leading the protest and demanding to minimize Amazon’s carbon footprint, pay more taxes, and increase the basic wages of its employees.

The activist group charged Amazon with not giving it back to its employees and taking most of the profit for itself. They further explained how operations in the Covid-19 pandemic had thrown light on the company priorities. They have submitted a formal letter to the management that includes 25 demands they want the company to implement, some of which are paid sick leaves, unionization, and salary hikes.

Kelly Nantel- Amazon’s Director of National Media Relations, spoke about this issue and said that Amazon profoundly cares about the demands of its employees. She further reassured that Amazon is committed to achieving near-zero carbon emissions by 2040 and working towards giving pay hikes, perks, and better healthcare to ensure a healthy work environment. There was no comment on the strikes and how it could affect Amazon’s operations on Black Friday.

Andy Jassy- CEO of Amazon Inc., spoke about the strike and iterated the fact that there is plenty of work to be done regarding the company’s policies for its employees. He further added that with a workforce of 1.2 million, there is a constant need for improvement on many grounds.
