Twitter Is Testing Built-in Podcasts Tab For Users

Twitter users will be able to pick and listen to podcasts at their leisure than joining a live Spaces broadcast or listen to recordings before time runs out.

Twitter Fails To Meet Its Ad Revenue And User Growth Targets

According to a screenshot released by reverse engineer Jane Manchun Wong, Twitter is working on creating a podcasts tab. A microphone symbol appears in the Twitter app’s bottom navigation bar, leading to a page labeled “Podcasts,” according to the screenshot.

The picture doesn’t reveal how podcasts would be shown on the site or if Spaces, the company’s audio-only chat rooms, will be included in any way. Live Spaces are now crammed at the top of Twitter feeds, dividing them into their own tab would make sense.

When Twitter initially introduced Spaces in 2020, it began expanding out into audio, and with the acquisition of social podcast company Breaker, it went even deeper into the medium.

The platform’s continuing Spaces initiative recently began allowing anybody to host chat rooms and allowing mobile users to record discussions.

Recorded Spaces are already akin to podcasts, but only for a limited time, lasting just 30 days. Users will be able to pick and listen to podcasts at their leisure, rather than being rushed to join a live Spaces broadcast or listen to recordings before time runs out, assuming a Twitter podcast option is anything like Apple or Spotify Podcasts.

As social media networks seek to expand their capabilities in order to generate more cash, Twitter is the latest to consider launching a podcasting division. Facebook offered a podcast service for select artists last year, while Reddit only recently permitted recording.
