TikTok Introduces SoundOn, A New Music Distribution Platform

The music distribution platforms have just witnessed a new competitor arriving in the arena. And this comes from a powerful contender that already enjoys a considerable amount of influence in today’s music scene. One song that grows hit on TikTok finds global popularity and rises on the ranks of Billboard charts.

Now TikTok is launching its own music distribution and marketing platform that will go by the name of SoundOn. The platform will not get in the way of artists when they upload their music directly on ByteDance’s own streaming platform Resso. ByteDance is the global parent company of TikTok.

Along with TikTok and Resso, artists can also upload their creations on other globally-known streaming services such as Spotify, Deezer, and Apple Music.

There will be no transaction fees associated with the platform. The distribution of music comes free of any monetary charge, which means users can listen to their favorite artist without paying a single cent to buy songs.

According to recent announcements through TikTok, SoundOn will be paying full royalties that go up to 100% of the amount directly to creators of the music. This will be continued on platforms owned by ByteDance for an unlimited period of time. Which consists of TikTok as well as Resso in countries such as India, Indonesia, and Brazil along with CapCut, which is a video editor application provided by ByteDance.

Similarly, global streaming applications and distribution services also offer a 100% payout in the artist’s beginning year on the platform. But as per trends and new reports, it drops to 90% in the second and subsequent years.

But that is not the same case for all. For instance, DistroKid. It is a distribution platform that puts the charges in the name of labels and artists on a subscription basis. All while allowing the artists themselves to keep 100% of the earnings they receive per stream.

Artists also keep 100% of stream revenues with TuneCore. This platform charges for distribution services on a per-song or per-album basis.

As stated in SoundOn’s FAQ page, artists and music creators will be receiving a 100% of royalties as well as owning the masters which may, later on, decrease to 90% of the share.
